SEEDS
"My design intent in this relief sculpture is to
evoke my culture fragments such as the Rosetta stone, Calendar
stones or rune stones. In order to do this, I have used a
contemplative face image amid the five major scripts used to
record most western thought: Phoenician, Greek, Roman, Medieval
and Modern English. These symbols have been arranged to
suggest expansion, growth, change and a sense of vitality.
This relief sculpture is a circular concave
form, four feet, three inches in diameter. My plan is to
cast it in aluminum and gold-leaf the surface.
When I submitted the proposal for the work, I
had no particular location for placement in mind. At this
point, I feel the stairway of the library might be suitable
since the gold surface would make a handsome effect against the
cool gray marble of the wall. The subject seems especially
appropriate for the location."
