Search Athena


Athena is a network of Nashville-area library catalogs accessible via the World Wide Web. Library users at any Athena library may search the catalogs of any of the other participating libraries.

Details

  • Users may search one library’s catalog, or simultaneously search catalogs of all participating libraries. Results are displayed for each library.


  • Books found through Athena may be requested through Interlibrary Loan at the Information Desk on Level 2 or online. An expedited delivery service is available - books should arrive at APSU within one week. Loan periods for books obtained through Athena are 28 days.


  • If you want to personally get a book from another library, please be aware that policies regarding use of and check-out privileges vary from library to library.  Please contact the other library for information before making a trip. 


  • Periodicals are not yet available through Athena. Other materials like rare books, books on class reserve, and non-book materials may not be borrowed.


  • Athena will NOT indicate whether a book is checked out.

Athena was developed by the Nashville Area Library Alliance (NALA), a consortium of libraries promoting cooperation and resource sharing to benefit the Nashville area learning community.

You may access Athena from anywhere.

How to Search Athena

  • By default, all the libraries are checked and you will search them all simultaneously.  If you wish, you my uncheck libraries you want to exclude from your search.

  • Enter your search term in the search box and choose to search by keyword (anywhere), author, title, or subject headings. Click Go!

  • The total number of items found as well as the number in each library will display in the left frame. The results (listed alphabetically for each library) will display in the middle frame. Click the name of another institution in the left frame to jump to the list of items held by that library.

  • Within the list of items, click the title of the item to see more information.

  • To create a list of items to print or e-mail, click the Save button next to each item you want.

  • To print the list of saved items, click Saved Records at the top of the screen. Use your browser's print button to print the displayed list.

  • To e-mail your list of items, click Saved Records at the top of the screen, then click E-mail at the top of the Saved Records list.  Fill out the requested information and click Go!
