Registered users get access to the following services:

  • The ability to search our database of news items, representing news broadcasts in our collection. An abstract is available for every story within each regular evening newscast. The detailed information within these abstracts helps not only to locate material in our collection but also serves as powerful resource for learning about the events covered by the major U.S. television networks since 1968.
  • Access to our videotape loan service. All items in our collection are available for viewing. Select the programs or segments of programs and we will mail a copy on videotape to you. We charge a fee for this service to help us recover our costs in producing the videotape.

Individuals may make requests for video tape loans for reference, study, classroom instruction, and research. We offer tapes that are duplications of entire broadcasts as well as compilation tapes of individual news stories specified by the borrower. Users pay fees for tape loans to cover the costs of providing this service.

Broadcasts that are not online may be viewed at the Archive in Nashville for $10 per hour of viewing time.  Please call ahead ( 615-322-2927) to make an appointment.

If you have any questions about the content in these collections or the services provided please contact the TV News Archive.

Access is available from campus or off campus.
