The books in Woodward Library are arranged in several collections, including Reference, General Book, University Archives & Special Collections, African-American and others.

To locate a book in the Library’s Book Collection, use the call number you find in Austin (Library Catalog). Be sure to

    EXAMPLES:
    Ref Stacks, Level 2
General Book Collection book, Level 3

  • Make sure the book is not checked out or missing by noting the information in the Status box.

  • Review How to Read Library of Congress Call Numbers so that you understand how to read a call number

  • Books are arranged within each collection by their call numbers which begin with alphabetical letter or letters A to Z.

Go to your book’s location, and use the call number to

  • Find the section of alphabetical letter or letters

  • Within that section, locate the number

  • Within that number, find the letters/numbers after the decimal point/s

If you cannot find your book or have questions, go to the Information Desk on Level 2.
