Obtain Background Information

It is very important to spend time gathering background information about your topic idea. It will save you time in the long run.

Background information can help you to focus your efforts at the beginning of the research process by

  • helping you to modify (narrow or broaden) your topic as needed

  • providing you with needed search terms

  • providing you with lists of additional sources to explore

Start with CQ Researcher available in the "A-Z List of Databases" on the Library Website at http://library.apsu.edu

Also, use reference sources (e.g. encyclopedias and online reference sources). Talk to experts, such as instructors and librarians about sources and search strategies to use.
