Question: How do I set up links
to articles or other resources such as items
from the library databases - for D2L, course web
pages, or other locations - so that they work
from off-campus?
Example: You want to link to
an article in the library database Academic
Search Premier with the permanent link:
http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&AN=9031038&site=ehost-live&scope=site
Answer: You need to format the
links in a way that redirects them through the
library proxy server and prompts students to
log-in with their last name and "A" number.. If you don't do this,
the links will work from on-campus, but not from
off-campus.
Use this Link Generator to create links
which will be available to students accessing
resources from off campus computers
(requires JavaScript enabled in your browser):
NOTES:
The link must be a "persistent"
link. This means that the link will always be available at this specific URL
address.
When in doubt try it, but test it a day later to make sure it still works.
You do not need to do this for
freely available sites (such as Google) or links that already begin with
http://ezproxy.lib.apsu.edu....
If you have addresses such as
http://someaddress.com.ezproxy.lib.apsu.edu..., this will fix them for you.
Students accessing created links within D2L should be
authenticated automatically without an additional log-in prompt.
