ARTstor is a non-profit organization created by
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The name ARTstor is derived from
JSTOR, a digital library initiative previously sponsored by the
Mellon Foundation whose name stands for Journal Storage. ARTstor
content includes approximately 700,000 images covering art,
architecture and archeology. These images may not be used for any
commercial purpose.
Subject
Guides for using ARTStor in a number of
disciplines are now available. In addition to
highlighting relevant collections in each subject, these
one-page handouts highlight unique interdisciplinary content in
ARTstor, search strategies, and search terms that greatly aid
discoverability across disciplines in the Digital Library
You can access ARTstor from anywhere with a valid APSU ID.
Using ARTstor
Keyword Search
Keyword searches can be performed within a single
collection or across the entire ARTstor Digital Library.
Advanced Search
ARTstor also has an Advanced Search feature that
allows users to build searches based on the contents of specific data
fields.

Data fields include: creator, title, location,
repository, subject material, style, work type, culture,
description, technique or number.

The advanced search supports Boolean logic
(and/or/not) searches.
Browse by Collection or Category

Displaying Results
Attention: If using Windows XP with Service Pack
2 you may need to modify your security settings to access the following
features. Please set the pop-up blocker to "always allow pop-ups
from this site" if prompted by your web browser.
Data for each image will appear beneath each
thumbnail.

Double clicking on the data beneath a thumbnail,
launches a window with detailed information.

A thumbnail image can be double-clicked to launch the Image
Viewer, which provides an enlarged view of the image and image
analysis tools to zoom on a detail or pan across the image.

A full screen view is also available by clicking on the
'maximize window' icon at the bottom of the viewer.
Two images may be opened at once for easy,
side-by-side comparison.
Exporting Images
Export options include downloading and printing low resolution images.
Download: Click on the
Download Image icon to download a jpg file to local computer or disk.
Print: Click the Print icon to
print displayed image. The print-out will contain the
image and descriptive information.
Advanced Features
To access features such as adding personal
notes to an image and saving groups of images to a folder for
presentation purposes you will need to register your e-mail address with
ARTstor and create a password. Click on "Register" in the top
right corner of the ARTstor search page to create an account.
