CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online) covers theory and
research in international affairs from documents published from 1991 to
present and is updated monthly. It includes conference
proceedings, findings from university research institutes, reports,
studies, conference proceedings and policy briefs. CIAO also
includes abstracts, case studies and full text volumes and selected
chapters of books, journal articles from six journals, and working
papers.
How to Search CIAO
To search: type
your term in the 'search ciao' box that appears on the right side of the
page. You may enter a keyword and/or phrases.
Using Iraq as a
keyword will return pages with the word Iraq.
Typing in Iraq war
will return pages with either Iraq or
war.
Putting a +
directly in front of words in a phrase will return pages with both
words. Searching for +Iraq +war will retrieve pages with both
words.
Searching for nuclear
disarmament | proliferation will return pages with either the word
'nuclear' or the word 'disarmament' and the word 'proliferation'.
Truncation:
Searching for disarm* will find pages containing disarm,
disarmament, disarmaments, etc.
To limit your
search to a certain type document, click the box next to
working papers, policy briefs, case studies, books or journals. For an
explanation of these type documents, click help.
You may also limit
your search by subject and/or dates by selecting from the drop
down menu in the 'search ciao' box.
Advanced searching
allows you to search for key words and phrases within the body of the
document, the title, author and contributing institution fields.
In advanced searching, Boolean searching is available using the
words and, or,
and not. Choose the desired Boolean operator from drop down
menus provided.
Search results are
displayed by relevance in descending order.
To print an
article or paper, use your browser's print button.
