IoP is available from on-campus, or from off campus with an APSU ID.
About: Access to the IoP
(Institute of Physics) electronic journals is broken down into three
parts:
(1)
All papers published in the IoP electronic journals are made freely available
electronically for 30 days from the date of online
publication, as a service to authors and to the international physics
community.
(2)
Older then 30 days until approximately 10 years ago, full-text
journal access is limited to journal subscribers, although abstract-level
access is available to all 39 journals. Austin Peay subscribes to Physics
Education so complete access is available for that journal.
(3)
All articles published in the IoP journals from 1874-1994 are
available in a Historic Archive. Austin Peay subscribes to that Historic
Archive.
How to search IoP
Journal Archives
***Be sure to read the IoP
electronic journals HELPS to use this database efficiently***
Basic Search: Click on the SEARCH tab located
toward the top of the page. The Search page will open up. You have two
options to search on this page—EITHER “Search article headers and
abstracts” OR “Search full text of articles”. The defaults are set
to search all years and to search all journals. When ready to execute the
search, click the “Run search” button.
To access ONLY the Historic
Archive, change the “Select year range:” to search from 1874 to Dec
1992.
Viewing Results: The
“Search results” page defaults to display ten results in a
“summary” format sorted in date order with the most current citations
displaying first. The display options can be changed by making the
appropriate modifications and clicking on the “Redisplay search
results” button.
Each result will have at least an
“Abstract” hyperlink. Some results will also have “Full text:
Acrobat PDF” and/or “References” hyperlinks. Simply select what data
wanted and click on the appropriate hyperlink.
If the search was not limited from
1874 to Dec 1992, there is no displayed differentiation between articles
available as full-text and articles with only abstract availability.
Since the results default to sort in
date order, the results at the top of list probably will be within
the free access 30 day time period and the results at the bottom of
the list probably will be over 10 years old and available in the Historic
Archive. To view current articles, creation of a free login may be
required. The alert says:
To gain fee access to the full text,
please
,
or if you do not have a username and password for our Electronic Journals
service, create an account.
Printing:
To print the abstract, select the format
from the drop down menu located at the bottom of the page in the field
labeled “Save/View/Print”.
To print the full-text article, use the
Adobe Reader print functionality.
Email/Export
To email/export results, follow the
four-step process provided at the bottom of results page.
Advanced Searching:
To view the most current issues of
a specific journal
The contents of each of the 39 journals
currently available can be viewed in a reverse chronological order. Simply
select the journal title from the opening screen and the most current
issue will be listed. To view the contents, click on the “Go to issue”
or the “Go to volume” button. If the article is available, the word
FREE is listed on the left side of the screen.
To search for a specific
citation
At the bottom of the opening screen is
“Content Finder.” Simply select the journal cited from the drop down
menu, enter the author, vol/year, issue, and/or page/article number and
click on the “Find” button.
