WilsonWeb, the
HW Wilson Information Retrieval System for the Internet, is a
comprehensive search tool that simplifies access to information stored
in databases. You can enter searches as single terms, phrases, natural
language queries, or complex Boolean search strings, then display the
retrieved records, and print, save, or email the results. You can browse
lists of terms and use the Thesaurus to search for concepts. In
addition, you can customize the display of results and refine your
search by combining or extending searches.
The WilsonWeb
interface consists of a series of related screens that make
sophisticated searching easy. The six main screens are:
- Advanced Search
- Basic Search
- Browse
- Search History
- Thesaurus
- Print Email Save
You can access Library Literture Full Text from anywhere with a valid APSU ID.
Using Wilson Web
Advanced Search
Type in your search term(s) and click
the Start button. By default, all fields are searched and are sorted by
relevance. You can change the sort order and the fields that are
searched by clicking the "Sort by:" or the "As:"
dropdown menus. Search results can be limited by date, document type,
and physical description. You can also restrict your results to
refereed/scholarly publications by clicking the "Peer
Reviewed" checkbox, and limit results full-text by clicking either
or both the html "Full Text" or pdf "Page Image"
checkboxes.
Displaying Results
Search results can be viewed in either a Brief or Full display.
The
results screen lists all the results of your search. The search query is
included at the top of the screen, along with a summary of the total
number of records and the database(s) searched. The Brief display is a
list sorted by relevance and provides the short form of each citation.
The Full display is labeled and displays additional information. Switch
between displays by clicking the "Brief" or "Full"
buttons on the bottom of the results screen. You can select which
records to print, email, or save by marking the checkbox next to the
records.
Printing, Emailing, Saving Results
Search results can be printed, emailed, or saved to disk. Click the
"Print Email Save" button. The "Print Email Save"
windows opens and the header displays the current search, the number of
records retrieved, the number of marked records selected, the names of
the databases searched, the defaults fields for output, and the sort
order. Each of the three options, Print, Email, and Save, allows you to
output the marked records or output up to a maximum of 100 records,
change the default "Brief Display" to either "Full/Custom
citation display", or "All", which includes full text and
images, if available. Search results can also include your search
history, highlighted search words, and record numbers.
Printing Results: Click "Print Options". Select the
number of records you want to print, the field, and other options you
want to include. Clicking the "Estimate" button will tell you
approximately how many pages will be printed. Clicking the
"Print" button reformats the selected records in a printer
friendly format. Then click the Print button to print the selected
records.
Emailing Results: Click "Email Options". Enter
your email address and a subject and your format preference. Then click
the "Email" button.
Saving Results: Click "Save Options". Select
your format preference and click the "Save" button. A file of
the chosen format will be sent to your browser. Depending on the chosen
format and your browser settings, your browser will either display the
file or ask you whether you want to 'open' the file or save it. Choose
save if given the option and then choose a name and location for the
file on your disk. Otherwise, use the 'File, Save As' function of your
browser menu.
Logging Out
Click the "Exit Program" button at the top right of
WilsonWeb window to end your session and either click your browser's
"Home" button or close your browser.
