Find Information By Subject
Articles
"Articles" are short writings from periodicals such as magazines, journals, and newspapers. Article databases (also called Periodical Indexes) allow you to find articles on a specific subject or with a specific title, author, or date of publication. Some articles are not available directly in the database -- see Accessing Articles from Periodicals for instructions on accessing these articles.

Books
- Find books owned by APSU Library using the Felix Online Catalog
- Find books owned by other libraries using Athena, Books in Print, and the online catalogs of other libraries
- Find books available over the Internet using netLibrary or Online Books websites
- Books provide a thorough, in-depth treatment of a subject.
- Older books can give a historical perspective on a topic.
- Books often include a table of contents and/or an index that can help researchers find information in the book more easily.
- In scholarly books, there is usually a list of sources that can assist researchers in finding more information about a topic.
Reference
Reference materials include encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, gazeteers, electronic resources, and others. They usually contain factual or statistical information or summarize the knowledge on a particular topic. Reference materials can be general (such as Encyclopedia Britannica) or specific (such as Encyclopedia of Psychology) in nature.

Web Sites
Internet web sites can sometimes provide quality information for your research. The web sites included in the library databases have been recommended by a publisher or librarian. However, as with all information, be sure to evaluate your sources.
