The laptops are Internet-ready
through a wireless connection and include Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and Office
2010

How to Borrow a Laptop | Laptop Circulation Policy |
Borrower
Responsibility Form
Bring your APSU student ID to the F.G. Woodward Library and go to the
Main Floor Circulation/Reserve Desk (just inside the entrance to the
building). Only currently enrolled APSU students may check out a laptop.
Tell the library staff person at the desk that you would like to
borrow a laptop.
Pay any fines owing the library. You will not be allowed to check out
a laptop if you have $25.00 or more in fines or overdue books, any
overdue recalls, AND "lost" charges on your library record.
If you haven't already done so, fill out and sign the responsibility
form provided by the library staff person at the desk. This form will be
kept on file for the current academic year, so you will only need to
fill out this form one time in a given academic year. The library staff
will place a note in your library records indicating that the form is
filled out and on file.
The laptop will be
checked out on your library record and will be due three hours (or less)
from the time you checked it out. You will also be given a power cord to use with the laptop. Be sure to return these
accessories when you return the laptop.
The laptops accrue fines if they are kept overdue, and if kept more
than four hours overdue, the replacement cost and a non-refundable
processing fee will be placed on your library record. The replacement
cost is waived when the laptop is returned, however the processing fee
will not be waived, and you will be responsible for all accrued fines as
well as the processing fee.
The laptops may only be used in the Woodward Library, and may not be
taken outside the building.
Please return the laptop to a library staff person at the
Circulation/Reserve Desk, no later than fifteen minutes before the
Circulation/Reserve Desk closes.
Where are the laptops?
Laptops may be checked out at the Circulation/Reserve Desk on the
main level in the F.G. Woodward Library
Who may borrow a laptop?
Only currently enrolled APSU students may check out laptops. APSU ID
is required (no exceptions). You must have less than ($25.00) in fines
and over dues, no overdue recalls on your library record, and no lost
charges in order to borrow a laptop.
Responsibility Form
Students are required to sign a responsibility form before receiving
the laptop.
Responsibility forms will be provided at the Circulation/Reserve Desk
and kept on file for the CURRENT academic year. A note will be placed in
the student's library record indicating that the form has been signed
and is on file. As long as this form is on file and is current, the
student may check out a laptop without filling out an additional form.
Where can the laptops be used?
The laptops may be used ONLY in the Woodward library and may NOT be
taken outside the library.
Can I check out more than one?
A student may check out only one laptop at any given time. One
student = one ID = one laptop.
Loan Period
When you check out the laptop, it will be due three hours from the
time you checked it out, or by fifteen minutes before the
Circulation/Reserve Desk closes, whichever is sooner. You may renew the
laptop one time for three more hours, by bringing it to the
Circulation/Reserve Desk, as long as no one else is waiting to check one
out.
Time Limits
All laptops must be returned to the Circulation/Reserve Desk no later
than fifteen minutes before the time the Circulation/Reserve Desk
closes.
Can I reserve a laptop in advance?
Laptops may NOT be reserved in advance. You may not place holds on
laptops. You may not ask the circulation staff to hold a laptop for you.
All laptop check outs are on a first come, first served basis. In times
of high demand, a waiting list will be used at the Circulation/Reserve
Desk. If your name is on the waiting list, you must be present when a
laptop becomes available or you will lose your place in the list.
Returns
All laptops must be returned in person to a library staff member at
the Circulation/Reserve Desk. This is the only place where laptops can
be checked out, renewed and returned
Please be sure to remove any floppy disk that you were using with the
laptop before you return it. Any disks found in the laptops later, will
be placed in "Lost and Found" at the Circulation/Reserve Desk.
Fines and replacement charges
Fines will be assessed at a rate of $1.00 per hour for an overdue
laptop. Four hours after the laptop is due, it will be declared lost and
a non-refundable $20.00 processing fee will be assessed in addition to
the replacement cost of the laptop ($2000). These charges will be placed
on your library record and will also be sent to the University Business
Office for collection. The replacement cost will be removed when the
laptop is returned, but the $20 processing fee will NOT be removed.
Lost or damaged laptops
If the laptop is lost, stolen, or damaged while you have it checked
out, or returned with missing components, you may be held liable for the
costs to replace or repair the laptop or its components which were
checked out with the laptop.
Your student technology fee provides this service. Please be
careful with the laptop in your custody. Do not leave it unattended.
