Library Sunshine Fund Committee

Description

The Sunshine Fund Committee is a faculty and staff sponsored financial resource that will support expressions of sympathy or goodwill toward colleagues who experience personal illness, familial/significant other loss, or celebrates a life milestone. Those experiences include but are not limited to adoption, birth, death, illness, retirement, or an unfortunate event like a flood, tornado, or fire.

Donation Policy

The solicitation of donations will occur semi-annually (January and July) via email by the Sunshine Fund Committee chair. However, colleagues may choose to contribute at any time. Acknowledgement of every donation will be sent to each colleague for their records. A financial report will be shared with both Sunshine Fund members and non-members quarterly (January, April, July, and October). The Sunshine Fund member and non-member names and their donation amounts will not be shared.

The recommended donations are based on annual salaries. However, any donation is appreciated.

Sunshine Fund Spending Guidelines

The Sunshine Fund Guidelines have been established pending continued availability of funds as follows:

Services for Sunshine Fund members and non-members: Cards

  • Adoption or birth – congratulations card
  • Death of an employee or immediate family member (spouse/significant other, child, mother, father, brother, or sister) – sympathy card
  • Hospitalization or surgical procedure of employee – get well card
  • Retirement – congratulations card

Services for Sunshine Fund member: Flowers/Plants, Comfort Baskets, or Customized Gift

  • Adoption or birth – flowers/plant or comfort basket not to exceed $75
  • Death of an immediate family member (spouse/significant other, child, mother, father, brother, or sister) – A plant or floral arrangement not to exceed $100, will be sent unless the family requests donations in lieu of flowers. If such a request is made, then a monetary donation will be sent.
  • Hospitalization or surgical procedure of employee – flowers/plant or comfort basket not to exceed $75
  • Retirement – customized gift not to exceed $200

Library-wide Social Events

  • Study Day pizza party – pizza and other supplies at the discretion of the SFC will be purchased for the fall and spring pizza parties for students and employees
  • Funds may be requested in advance and in writing/email to the SFC chair for seasonal social events and disbursement of funds will be at the discretion of the SFC

Membership

Staff and Faculty (6) – One (1) from each library unit Access Services, Administration, Research and Instruction, Resource Management and Digital Services, and Technology Resources. One (1) ex officio from Administration.

Members will serve a two-year term. A one-year break must occur before serving again.
