Box 3 - Writings by Dix – series - MIRANDY
Folder 19 of 22
86 items
Newspaper clippings of the Mirandy articles published in newspapers and magazines across the United States and in Great Britain between 1905 and 1920. The writings are expressed in Negro dialect and their brand of “folk-wisdom” which might be seen today as demeaning to blacks, but in their day the Mirandy stories were popular enough to be regular features in newspapers and in such magazines as Good Housekeeping and Cosmopolitan. The Mirandy stories were later compiled into two volumes, 1914 and 1925.
The following is a listing of articles at hand in the Dorothy Dix collection, it also includes articles from the Dix’s scrap book and an adaptation of Mirandy on Christmas (#86).
The Mirandy articles are in folder III. 19; the photo copies of the articles are in folder III.19a, and the bibliographic information (hand written on cards) are in folder III.19b.
