Lendable Objects Collection

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Woodward Library has established a lendable objects collection to promote access, education, and sustainability across our campus. This collection allows students, faculty, staff and community card holders to borrow useful items raging from technology gadgets to cooking equipment. By sharing resources in this way, the university and community at-large can enjoy convenient access without each individual or department needing to purchase their own infrequently-used items. Greater sharing also eliminates waste when more people utilize an object rather than letting something sit idle most of the time. In addition to the practical benefits, this lendable collection has an educatinal aim of exposing the APSU community to new ideas, technologies, and experiences. The collection aligns with the University's commitment to student encirchment as well as principles of environmental and financial responsibility. Making functional and enriching physical objects available to inspire new ways of thinking embodies the Woodward Library's essence of being a forward-focused library.

Policy

  • Items from the lendable objects collection may be checked out for 7 days, with one 7-day renewal allowed.
  • Prior to checking out any item, individuals must sign a liability & accountability waiver that will be kept on file with the Library. This waiver releases the Library and University from liability in case of damage, injury, or other incidents related to the use of lendable objects. Further, it shifts accountability for one object care, proper use, and return to the responsibility of the borrowing patron.
  • Lendable objects must be returned directly to the Access Services Desk in the library by the end of the lending period. Items are never to be returned to the general book drop or left anywhere in the library or on campus.

Failure to Return/Damaged Items

  • Individuals will be held responsible for any damage or loss of lendable objects and will be charged for repair or relacement costs as determined by the Woodward Library.
  • If an item is returned in a destroyed/unusable condition the responsible party will be banned from borrowing lendable items in perpetuity.
  • If items are returned in poor/dirty/damaged condition as decided by Access Services upon receiving the item then:
    • After the first offense this will be noted in the patron's record.
    • After the second offense the patron is banned for the remainder of the academic semester/remainder of the calendar year (if community patron) from utilizing the lendable objects collection.
    • After the third offense the patron is banned from utilizing the lendable objects collection in perpetuity.
  • Failure to return item after the initial seven-day lending period and seven-day renewal period (14 days) along with the seven-day grace period (total 21 days) will result in the patron being banned from utilizing the lendable objects collection in perpetuity.
